A gathering of on the spot lax topics, everyday shenanigans, serious mumbo jumbo served warm with a side of thick gravy.
Punk's buddy (who isn't as hardcore as Punk) wanted to post a blog but he was worried about what the ladies would think. I thought it was worthy of posting, a funny play on us laxers and it is geared for the holidays. Thanks Alex...I mean 'bro'!
=========================
It's that wonderful time of year where we all reflect on how dubious we've been this past year and try to figure out ways to fix ourselves. Some of us are perfect as we are, but in the lacrosse players mind, we always have something to fix.
10. Find a team with the most ridiculous team shorts and join the team just to get a pair. Also make sure the team has an awesome name like "The Anal Probes" or "Just the Tip".
9. Make sure my tan line is rockin by may so I can make sure all the ladies know I am on a lax team and maybe they will give me the time of day.
8. See number 9 and make sure the ladies get a ticket to the gun show. With this kind of tan, my guns look bigger than ever!
7. Make sure i get some floral print summer gear. chick's dig it.
6. Make sure I say bro more than 10 times per day. They might revoke my lax card if I don't keep up with this one.
5. Buy some pro gear and then wear it on the field so dudes think I'm the man. (and then let them realize I suck when I play).
4. Get my plaid bermuda shorts to relax in. People will know I'm a laxer then.
3. See number 4 and add some brown flip flops that have frayed edges so it looks like I've been wearing them for 3 years already. I started this flip flop sheeeet!.
2. Get some elephant sized sun glasses that hide my entire face. The ladies won't know i'm ass ugly if they can't see my face.
1. Start growing out the do in january so the locks o' lovin' are flowing out the back of the helmet. add a curling iron to the back so it looks sexay! (if you aren't into the locks, then make sure that hair gel is in full stock so you can spike that sh*t to the ceiling bro!)
With these new resolutions, the ladies will be flowing your way and all your goals will be pinging corners. Here's to a better laxer in you for 2009.
Happy Holidays everyone!
Wassup Laxers! Punk's too old to worry about Fall ball, so there's no lax really going on until the NLL season gets started. Can't wait to see Gary give it another go up in Rochester.
Punks heading to the NOFX show on Friday. It should be filled with Fat Mike's lame political lectures, but most importantly some some rockin tunes. Punk hopes to hear "Linoleum", "Moron Bros" and who couldn't go without hearing "Bob".
Friday night we'll be drinkin' Manishevitz, goin' out to terrorize goyim.
Stompin' shegetz, screwin' shiksas, as long as we're home by Saturday mornin!
Cuz Hey!
We're the Brews!!
See ya at the show!!
Punk knew what time of year it was when he couldn't watch his fun-filled Fox lineup on Sunday night due to the MLB playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I like the playoffs and championships for just about every sport but baseball is so ridiculous.
The average MLB game takes somewhere in the range of 2.5-3hrs. But why is it that the average MLB playoff game takes 4-5hrs. It's sooooooooooo boring.
Who wants to watch that on the boob tube? I'll be happy to watch the highlights on sportscenter.
That's my rant.
Punk made it down to the Ocean City Lax Classic this weekend and started thinking wow, this game is growing. There were 40 men's teams in the tournament and about 80 in all It's always a great weekend, but the tournament overall was questionable.
Here are Punk's thoughts:
1. 40 teams is a lot even if there is an A & B division - somehow, separate the good from the bad.
2. Winning teams should not play in the morning. Save that for losers. Punk couldn't tell you the amount of guys that were on winning teams and were telling me that they had 8,9,10am games.
3. Sunday games are a no-no unless you are playing for the gold.
4. Take into account that the atmosphere is why folks go to your tournament. Set up tournament parties and have local watering holes and eateries involved in some deals to draw players. Bikini and or wet t-shirt contests are always welcome. :)
5. Find an arena that can handle the amount of teams. If not available have concessions and stuff available at all locations.
6. If the tournament rules are set in advance, have all refs and tournament officials stick to them. Some games had 4 poles, some 5, some 6.
7. Re-seeding the teams on Friday night at 10:30pm is bad. There were some rain delays so it had to happen, but seeding should take place at the beginning not half way through and you don't know when your team is going to play. Use this years finish to seed for next. New teams get the lower seeds by default.
Punk still loves the OC tournament and will be back for years to come to hang out and party and really likes the fact that the game is growing so much to handle 40 teams in the elite division of a tournament. But don't be so greedy in the future.
The MLL has done some strange things in their day, but overall Punk feels that the MLL does a good job with what they have right now. But Punk is wondering if he should register his discontent on the MLL-All Star Game or give the MLL praise?
Punk understands that it's critical to get the kids to follow the game, so all the college stars that haven't even played a half of a season, make the all-star game. Good work guys!
31-15...that's the kind of scoring that the league wants, so was that a good thing?
2-Point Accuracy Shot? Benson Erwin was basically rolling the ball into the net. Pretty cheesy. Punk could've gave these pros a run for their $$ in that event.
Berger's flying acrobat shot was actually more funny that anything. I guess its tough to think of a new and exciting lax shot.
What are your thoughts on the game? Good, bad...ugly?
Punk thinks that this has actually been an exciting season in the MLL thus far. With Philly on the road all year and losing its first 3 games, they have really turned things around but have Long Island to deal with to take the East title. Go figure that Denver is the top team in the West and probably the entire league. They had 20,000+ at a game last week. That's awesome! Denver is handsdown the best sports city in the US. They'll put fans in the seats for just about anything.
Two teams have been a disappointment so far. Both Rochester and LA have winning records, but they should be doing a lot better. Jr. and Casey on attack...are you kidding me!?
And finally, who knows what's going on in San Fran and Chicago. Punk expected good things from both and has been let down. Perhaps more draft picks next year? Something has got to be done.
Check out the names on this years all-star team. This league is pretty darn good. Eastern Conference All-Stars

Punk has been one busy dude lately. But since I didn't get a chance to address my peoples, I figured I'd give it all to you know including the 1st Annual Punk Awards - 2008.
This award is about just being nasty on the field and having everyone want to be you off the field. So basically its just a player of the year or something. Punk doesn't want to think too hard, so here they are.
1st Annual Punk Awards - Sponsored by LaxSpot.com (Powered by the Lacrosse Community!)
D1 - Paul Rabil - JHU - Nasty, nasty, nasty! And proved it in the National Championship Game. He drew the LSM all season. Without the supporting cast that some other studs had, he put it all on his shoulders. 50 points (36,14)
D2 - Greg Cerar - CW Post - He put up some great numbers as a junior and he can feed the rock as well as he scores. 67 points (43,24)
D3 - Kylor Berkman - Salisbury - A 2nd championship for Kylor as he led the Gulls at the midfield all season. 81 points (33,48) for a midfielder ain't too shabby!
Thanks to all for reading this season. I know that you're smarter and more awesome (awesomer) for doing so. Punk will keep on posting as I hit the summer tournaments, the beach and tryin to juggle all of these lovely ladies.
Punk did pretty good in his picks last weekend. Well at least in the men's side of things! Here's how good I was. Punk had UVA in the D1 women's championship...so luckily my winner is TBD!
Men's
D1: 7-1 (Lost UNC game)
D2: No games
D3: 6-2
Women's
D1: 4-4 (Lost Vandy, Towson, Gtown, UVA)
D2: No games
D3: 4-4 on Sat plus 4-0 on Sunday
So much for getting the picks for today's games. Cortland is losing 9-7 in the 4th. That could throw off Punk's D3 championship picks. We'll stick with my original picks and see how things go the rest of the way.
Punk loves the playoffs! Time to separate the punks from the nerds. Predicting the outcomes for the '08 playoffs will be harder than ever this season with all the 'parity' out there this year. Punk even has the scoop on who's going to take the women's championships too.

Yes for the third straight year these two powerhouse state universities will face off in the D3 finals. Punk expects to see lots of tight shirts and gold chains on one side and shaggy hair and madaras shorts on the other. A standard NY vs MD battle.
Now time for the ladies. Gotta love the ladies! I think their sticks are better than guys after watching some top teams play this season.

I didn't want to pick all the winners now. You wouldn't have to even pay attention to the games as my pick's are right on target!
Wow, some shake ups in the polls over the past few weeks. Punk is surprised by Cuse and MD thus far. After the dismantling of UVA by MD, just think how good this MD team could be in a year or so after these freshmen get some big game experience. (Like UVA, Duke, etc don't count).
Two teams that have Punk perplexed are Towson and UMass. I can understand UMass having some trouble due to the brawlers, etc, but what's up with Towson?
Punk posted a poll prior to the season and now its time to re-evaluate. Punk was right with JHU not being #1 his original poll. It's tough to pick those 10-20 because they beat on each other all season. The top 10 is the place to be. So here is Punks Top 10 with 11-20 in no particular order and two surprise votes because Punk likes to cause trouble.
1. Duke
2. Syracuse
3. UVA
4. UNC
5. Maryland
6. Cornell
7. Georgetown
8. Navy
9. Norte Dame
10. UMBC
Johns Hopkins, Hofstra, Princeton, Drexel, Loyola, Stonybrook, Harvard, Delaware, Salisbury, Lemoyne
Just rockin out at work here...it's Social D time.
We had yet another great weekend of lax and things are only going to get better as the weather warms up. Besides that, Punk can start wearing the hammock without being too cold.
The lacrosse classic a couple weekends ago was a good time except the frigid weather. I didn't even make it to Flogging Molly later that night due to the adult beverage consumption. I saw the Lax Spot folks there hitting on every girl that walked by. I guess that's how they roll?
Big win for the Flyin' Dutchmen last week. Pride is just a lame name and Punk refuses to say it ever again. JHU had a tough week with a tight one against UMBC as well. Punk thought Loyola was going to have a turn around year, but they just balled up and took steel tipped kodiaks to the teeth for about 60 minutes against the Dukies. Their pride was out the window after the opening whistle and it showed. If you're playing big time D1 ball, you should wear that heart on your sleeve all day, not just out at the bar trying to pick up chicks and start fights at CVPs. Okay, I said pride again but they looked ridiculous and had HUGE heads after a few wins.
I would update on my Fantasy NLL team, however the good networking folks have placed a block on the site here at work. Maybe I'll take some time from being rad to check it later.
The Pogues are playing tonight in Baltimore with the Pietasters. Always a treat to see the Pietasters as they put on a fun and energetic show. Grab your keys in one hand and your beer in the other..drink! drink! drink!
Men's College Lacrosse is in good shape thus far in this cold 2008.
Last weekend, at least here in Baltimore we got two games on regular TV (Loyola v Towson, MD v Gtown). I was told that ESPN U had the JHU v Albany game on also. Not too shabby if you didn't want to freeze your butt off.
From what I personally saw, and I know it's Week 1 for most teams, Towson is in for a long year, Gtown will turn things around and the Terps could be in for a real fun year with those freshman. That one kid Grant Catalino is a big boy who has 7 goals already.
What is up with Virginia? They should be mopping the floor with teams such as Drexel and Stonybrook but they didn't. At least they came out on top and also took down Vermont this week as well.
As far as who is "The Team" right now, it's too early to say. I like North Carolina winning some games. It's about time they turn around that program. If not, send Haus to my office, cuz he's fired.
In D2 action, Bryant spanked Adelphi. I don't know how Adelphi is supposed to be this season, but this is something out of the ordinary in D2. I know of all the hype over Bryant with Pressler there, but thats a wollop of a win, 16-7 starting out 6-0 for the Bulldogs.
The main D3 story has to be that Salisbury barely held off Lynchburg for a 10-9 victory and according to Gull Fan, it was the first time that the Gulls were blanked in a quarter since a 3-2 OT win vs OWU in 2001. Punk was there.
And finally, I think that there's nothing better than a lax-playin chick as I saw quite a few last weekend at various lacrosse functions. I guess I have a soft spot for a nice gal that can lax it up. Does that make me a laxtitute? If so, I'm okay with that and feel free to label me.
Punk's preseason picks are so much more reliable than the other "sources". What do they know? We'll see. I don't care who won last year, they're not #1 to start out in the Punk Poll.
1. Virginia
2. Duke
3. Georgetown
4. Johns Hopkins
5. Princeton
6. Maryland
7. North Carolina
8. Cornell
9. Syracuse
10. Notre Dame
11. Navy
12. Towson
13. Loyola
14. Albany
15. UMBC
16. Hofstra
17. Ohio State
18. Delaware
19. Bucknell
20. Drexel
I don't know how I can top that All-Time Best of The Wire team post. Man that show is great. I watch a week ahead on On-Demand so i won't ruin anything for ya this week.
So apparently I messed my NLL fantasy team up by not starting a D-man. I will have to get on the wires and get a good transition guy. I'm 0-1 right now and when the site updates, I'm sure to be 0-2 when they re-tally. I have a good group of guys and I messed it up. Way to go Punk!
Here's the guys on my roster: A good group, I messed up. I guess my dominance from last year is over. I'll rebound just wait.

So punk hit up two shows last week which is crazy because I haven't been able to hit up any shows lately. The first was a total pop-punk show with The Queers at the Ottobar in Baltimore near JHU. Punk had a great time sporting his GIANTS jersey in front of those new england pop-punkers. They rocked even though Joe had a bum voice from playin so many shows over the past few weeks. I was upset that I missed The Leftovers because the Giants celebration was going on and it took a while to get to the show.
On monday I hit up the sidebar in baltimore to check out a great local rock n roll band, Lazlo Lee and the Motherless Children. It wasn't too crowded, but as always they put on a good set. Goin out on a Monday is always tough even for punk. This gettin old thing sux.
"Don't Play with the Dead"
Lazlo Lee & the Motherless Children
Punk likes to watch The Wire. What a great show! Unlike HBO's other hit series, The Sopranos, things actually happen in this show and it hasn't dragge on for years. Since they're in Baltimore, you know that they all have to play lacrosse. If they could only learn to play together, they'd be a sick team.
This is my All-Time starting team for The Wire Lacrosse Club who plays their games out of Clifton Park.

Punk is a fan of all types of music, but what's the deal with marching bands? While watching the bowl games this week, I've discovered a new pet peeve; and thats the out of date gear that they are forced to wear.
| The feather in their weird hat is does not make anyone feel good. And what's up with the strap at it's chin on the hats as well!? Seriously? They have to wear these cheesy looking jackets made of polyester. They should really update the band attire. Living in Baltimore, you can go to a Ravens game and see these folks dressed up all silly too. I know that there's a tradition behind it, but why make a kid in the band look silly. For crying out loud, it's tough enough to play an instrument. Don't get me wrong, these folks are extremely talented. But dressing up like a clown probably doesn't make it much easier. The tuba guy should have the story, "This one time, at band camp...I duct taped down the conductor until he promised us some new threads." |
| I guess that I'm glad that the marching band isn't a big thing in lacrosse. If you're going to bring an instrument (which is highly recommended because its cool) please do so. Just leave the silly outfit at home. |
Punk has decided to put a team in the NLL.com Fantasy league. Last year I dominated my league and won the overall title. It helped having NLL stars such as Lewis Ratcliffe, Colin Doyle, Ryan Boyle, Danny Marohl, Shawn Evans and Athan Iannucci on one squad. I think I had the Mamoth defense as well.
So the "Laxpunx" are in good ole public league #281. Punk is predicting another strong year for the punx squad.
Punk is not really a style of music. It was more like a state of mind.
-Mike Watt
So tonight I got to watch the New England Patriots go 16-0 in the regular season and I have to say that that is as punk as you can get. The Giants played a great game, but 3 cheers to the Pats for pulling that off.
Punk is wondering, how do the past couple of undefeated lacrosse champions compare to the New England Patriots in what they pulled off this season (even though it's just the regular NFL season thus far).
In the 2005 season, D1 Johns Hopkins was 16-0 and D3 Salisbury went 20-0 in their respective championship runs. In 2006, D1 Virginia went 17-0 and D2 Lemoyne went 15-0. And to top all off most recently, Salisbury went 23-0 to win the national championship in D3.
Punk can recall being at some of these games for all these teams and wants to know what the lacrosse community thinks about how these teams unblemished records compare to what the Patriots have done this season thus far.
Obviously this Patriots team won't be recognized as "The Best" if they don't win the Super Bowl, but as of now, it doesn't look like anyone will beat them. What do you think? Give me Punk your thoughts!!!
Every generation's got to have somewhere to play. But of course I suppose the punk thing was just too ugly, and too aggressive, and too reactionary.
-Michael Giles
So I figured out the plans for NYE. Two parties, and they're only a few blocks away from each other, so thats win-win. Now Punk's just gotta find himself a nice lady to ring in the new year with. ..wink wink. I guess he'll just have to wait until the irons hot to strike.
So I went on the NLL homepage and man that site was rocking out. They have a jukebox goin in the background. I think thats just as great as playing music while the games goin on! I'm just playing, it brings a cool attitude to the site which is good if you're looking for that attitude. I'd prefer to hear RUSH since the Canadians dominate the league.
Now that this laxspot.com site is available to the public, I hope that folks take the initiateve and start their own blogs, groups and such because you probably don't want to read Punk's drivvel. It's the type of individualism that Punk normally speaks of. This is the Internet in its true form, allowing the users to put up anything they want (within reason per the site). Who am I kidding. Hopefully some lax starts soon so we can really Punk out.
The jury had down right contempt for punk rock grass roots ethics.
-Jello Biafra
The report from the Street Dogs show was that "IT ROCKED!".
Laxpunk is wondering what everyone's doin for NYE. He'll probably do a "Be all you can be" aka All you can drink and eat special. Let me know where the party is goin to be at and follow up with some good stories or photos of your good time!
OUT!
"Were it not for the Clash, punk would have been just a sneer, a safety pin and a pair of bondage trousers".
-Billy Bragg
So Laxpunk is finally out of his mom's basement and is starting his own blog! Can you believe that this site allows me to express my feelings about whatever I want for all to see. I think thats pretty darn neat.
I don't have a topic today as I just stumbled upon Laxspot.com. But I have to say that the site seems pretty cool guys...well done. Hopefully the Laxpunk Nation will take over by storm!
There are so many topics that we can discus and hopefully we can hit them all. 2008 should surely be a great season in all respects. So let's move forward and hope for some excellent play at all ranks.
