Default Fresno State to Add Women's Lacrosse

Fresno State adds two women's sports teams

The Associated Press
Article Launched: 01/08/2008 01:01:36 PM PST

FRESNO, Calif.—Female athletes will have the chance to compete in two new women's sports teams at California State University, Fresno starting next year. Fresno State announced Monday it was adding a women's lacrosse team and reinstating its women's swimming and diving team in an effort to resolve an old dispute over gender equity.

The school said it cut the swim team after the 2003-04 season to save money. But that move only added to an already fractious debate over the university's compliance with Title IX, the federal law that requires gender equity in scholastic athletics.

Fresno State faculty say adding lacrosse will help the school boost the number of athletic scholarships for women.

Default Recruiting from California

Glen,
I think it's great that California is finally coming along in the lacrosse world. Might I suggest that Fresno State look locally for talent? There's a great club with tons of talent just north of Fresno! It's called Triple Threat Lax. Here's the web site: www.triplethreatlax.org.
